The Hamburg Lions’ final home game of the season against the Star City Bulldogs was a tough one; they were unable to score a single touchdown against their opponent when they faced the team Friday, Oct. 21.
The Lions began the game with control of the ball, but it was around three minutes into game play that the Bulldogs had taken possession. By five minutes in, Star City had already scored their first touchdown.
The next drive by Hamburg saw Lions’ #2 Willis Robinson making a few runs down the field, but the opposition’s defense prevented him from getting too far each time. He did, however, get 16 yards in one play during that push.
The first quarter ended with Star City in possession of the ball; they started the second quarter with an incomplete pass, but less than three minutes in, the Bulldogs’ #6 ran the ball for 14 yards for the team’s second touchdown of the night. Their two-point conversion pass was good, keeping the Bulldogs in the lead over the Lions, 15-0.
The Bulldogs intercepted a pass by Lions’ #1 Tyson Brooks intended for #11 Anthony Smith.
Aside from an 18-yard run, stopped with a tackle by the Lions’ #10 Zane Johnson, Star City inched the ball towards the end zone. They still managed to make another touchdown, and the kick was good, bringing their score to 22 over Hamburg’s 0.
After two incomplete passes by Star City, Hamburg regained control of the ball with two minutes left on the clock.
Robinson only managed to run a few yards before the Bulldogs called a time-out; Robinson attempted another run but gained no yards, at which point the opposition took another time-out.
The Lions’ Grubb then punted to their 46-yard line, where the Bulldogs began their next drive with 1:09 on the clock.
The Bulldogs #7 completed a pass to #15 for 23 yards, ending with a tackle by Lions’ #13 Brent Holland.
After that there were penalties on both offense and defense—two offensive holding penalties for 10 yards each, as well as a 15-yard penalty for defensive pass interference.
The Bulldogs, however, scored another touchdown with a complete pass thrown by their #7 to #2 for the 13 yards needed with less than 30 seconds left on the clock; the point-after kick was good, bringing their score to 29 over Hamburg’s 0.
The Lions’ Robinson made a 19-yard run—his longest of the game—to their 34-yard line before the team called a time-out. After an incomplete pass, Robinson ran another 13 yards before the end of the second quarter.
The third quarter began with Lions’ #23 Thomas Franco’s kickoff to the 14-yard line.
The Bulldogs wasted no time—their #2 returned the ball 86 yards for the touchdown; the kick was good. This brought the score to 36-0.
Neither team scored during the fourth quarter. A fumble was recovered by #12 RJ Whitaker, but the final two drives by the Lions failed to get them any points.
With just over a minute left on the clock, the Bulldogs took a knee, ending the game with the final score 36-0, in favor of Star City.
