The Hamburg Lady Lions beat Quitman in a road softball game Saturday.
Hamburg opened the first inning with two runs when Mallory Rials and Percy Pennington both stole home for the first two runs of the game.
The Lady Lions took the field and held Quitman off. Pennington struck the first batter out, and Addi Meeks caught an out in center field. Rials snagged the third out on shortstop to bring the Lions in to bat.
In the top of the second Annah Edwards stole home to give the Lady Lions three runs, but Meeks and Jada Hartley were left stranded on base.
In bottom of the second Quitman got a run across the plate with an inside the park homerun making the score 3-1.
The third inning saw no runs, but Quitman scored again in the bottom of the fourth.
Two batters got on base after they were hit by pitches and the first one stole her way around to home, making the score 3-2.
Hamburg answered in the fifth inning with a run when Pennington stole home making the score 4-2. The Lady Lions took the field and allowed Quitman to get another run across. The score was 4-3 going into the sixth inning.
Hamburg was able to cushion the lead with five runs in the top of the sixth.
Meeks knocked Edwards in and she, Kylie Burnside, Rials and Hartley all stole home. Bri Huff and Meeks were both left stranded on base, but the Lady Lions took the field leading 9-3.
The Lady Lions got three up three down. Meeks struck the first batter out. Huff caught an out on second and Rial caught the third out on short.
The Lions weren’t able to get any runs across in the seventh, but held Quitman three up, three down, making the final 9-3.
The Lady Lions traveled to Start City on March 10 to face the Lady Bulldogs but results were not available at press time.
