Thelma Marie Bell

Thelma Marie (Rita) Bell, age 59, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 at her residence in Portland. She was a native of Portland and a former resident of Chicago, Ill., for 25 years. She worked as a certified nurses assistant (CNA) and was a member of Brown Temple Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Alex Washington.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 12 years, Johnny Bell Sr. of Portland; one son, Johnny Bell Jr. of Portland; her mother, Jessie Harvey of Portland; her step-father, Joe Harvey of Portland; and two brothers, Bruce Washington of McGehee and Ricky Washington of Chicago.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Portland #2 Baptist Church with Pastor Walter Witherspoon officiating. Pallbearers were Matt Webb, Patrick Smith, Robert Sykes, George Gipson, Jo Nathan Webb and Charles Bynum. Honorary pallbearers were Chester Dunn, Marcus Harper, Johnny Bell Jr., and Bruce Washington. Burial was in Portland #2 Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.


Clyde Bradley Cummings

Clyde Bradley Cummings, age 66, of Crossett, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017 at Ashley County Medical Center. He was born in Greenville, Miss., Jan. 27, 1950 and worked as a foreman at Chem-Tec.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Lee Cummings and Doris Sue Hearn, and one son, Charles Bradley “Brad” Cummings.  

Survivors include Virginia Norrell Hearn of Crossett; two daughters, Karen R. West of Zebulon, N.C., and Kimberly M. Jenkins of Garner, N.C.; three sisters, Gwenlyn Benefield of Bonneau, S.C., Brenda Baldwin of Biloxi, Miss., and La Nora Hodo of Biloxi; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24 at North Crossett First Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Baker officiating. Burial was planned in Carlock Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home with visitation Tuesday from 12 p.m. until service time at the church.


Patricia Ann Davidson

Funeral service for Patricia Ann Davidson, 51, of Monticello, formerly of Eudora, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 at the Minister’s Institute in Eudora. Service entrusted to Dillard Funeral Home.

James Matthew Gulledge

James Matthew “Matt” Gulledge, age 35, of Crossett, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 at home surrounded by family and loved ones. He was born in Crossett Oct. 25, 1981 to Curtis and Lisa Dean Gulledge. He was a 2001 graduate of CHS and a graduate of UAM with a bachelor’s degree in history/political science.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Allen and Patsy Gulledge and maternal grandparents, James and Kathryn Dean.

Along with his parents he is survived by one son, Tyce of Crossett; and three brothers, Jesse Gulledge and wife, Kristaleen of Heartland, Texas, Rusty Gulledge of Crossett, and Joel Gulledge and wife, Hannah of Hot Springs.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ellis Lewis officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were Jesse Gulledge, Rusty Gulledge, Joel Gulledge, Brad Dean, Ceth Pennington and J.B. Netherland.

Bill Moore Jr.

Bill "Buddyshane" Moore Jr., age 68, of Hamburg died Jan. 17, 2017 at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock.

He was born Oct. 31, 1949 and was a 1967 graduate of Hamburg High School. He was an employee of Barnes Lumber Company for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Earnestine Moore; his wife, Rosie Moore; two brothers, Sampson Cook and Nugene Moore; and two sisters, Ruby Dean Moore and Lawanda Franklin.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories two sisters, Mary Ann Jackson of Monroe, La., and Lummie Wright of Crossett; one daughter, Connie Stokes of Elmhurst, Ill.; one son, Billy Moore of Harvey, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Sharon Gulley of Ft. Worth, Texas; four stepssons, Willie Gulley, Mario Gulley, and William Gulley, all of Hamburg, and Tyrone Gulley of Ft. Worth; 15 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 404 Martin Luther King St. in Hamburg with the Rev. Horace Ingram officiating. Burial in Phillip Grove Cemetery will follow under the direction of Mitchell Memorial Funeral Services.

Active pallbearers are Clyde Leonard, John Young, James Adams, Willie Gulley, Tyrone Gulley, Glen Stanley, Timothy Downs, and Tico Turner.

Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Hamburg High School Class of 1967.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mary Lavell Pollan

Mary Lavell Pollan, age 76, of Jacksonville, formerly of Crossett, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 at Stonegate Villa Health and Rehabilitation in Crossett. She was a native of Crossett, a homemaker, and a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William Dee Pollan; her parents, Charlie Bomar and Bessie Mae Pennington-Stanley; four brothers, Lincoln Stanley, James Stanley, Roland Stanley, and Wayne Stanley; three sisters, Helen Stanley, Dorothy Stanley, and Brenda Sue Stanley.

She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Dee James Pollan of Searcy and William Pollan wife Carlyne of Melbourne, Fla.; three brothers, Kenneth Stanley, Herman Stanley wife Jessie, and Lowell Stanley wife Allene, all of Crossett; two sisters, Pauline Virginia Johnson and Joyce Fran Wilcox husband Gordan all of Crossett; and two grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1533 Highway 52 W, Crossett, AR 71635 with Bro. Eric Hodge officiating. Arrangements made by Cromwell Funeral Home.


Wanda Faye Zeigler

Wanda Faye Zeigler, 62, of Crossett died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. She was born March 10, 1954, in Many, La., and worked for many years as a health information transcriptionist at Ashley County Medical Center along with various other jobs including at Wal-Mart. She was a member of South Main Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Geraldine Davis Early.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Terry Zeigler of Crossett; two sons, Brian Zeigler and Justin Zeigler of Crossett; three siblings, Marilyn Irvine, Tommy Early, and Gerald Early; and one granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at South Main Baptist Church, 2801 S. Main St., Crossett, AR, with Pastor Lyle Hern officiating. Services were entrusted to Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.
