Ashley County Judge Jim Hudson won the Republican primary for his seat after a close race with opponent Jim Wells. 

Hudson only needed 51 percent of the votes to avoid a runoff, which amounted to 1,189 votes. 

In unofficial results, Hudson received 1,258 votes from all the precincts, which was 69 votes more than the total he needed. Wells came in at 41 percent with 985 votes in total. Herbert “Bubba” Carpenter generated 90 votes for himself.
