An Ashley County man died Friday morning in a vehicle accident in Lonoke County.
According to a report from the Arkansas State Police, there was a fatal car crash in Scott on Friday that claimed the life of a Crossett man. The accident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m.
The report said that Ashley Meeks, 48 of Crossett, was driving a Ford F550 south on U.S. Highway 165 when his truck collided head-on with the cab of a tractor-trailer. Meeks was reportedly approaching Johnson Road when the accident occurred.
William Jones, 28, of Stuttgart, was driving the other vehicle, a 2007 model Kenworth, north on U.S. 165 when he was struck by Meeks who crossed the center line, according to the report.
The Kenworth vehicle reportedly left the west side of the road and burst into flames. The Ford truck spun around and came to a final rest in the southbound lane facing north.
Jones was carried to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock but his condition was unavailable at press time.
At the time of the accident it was the 19th fatal accident and the 21st fatality in the state in the month of January. The Arkansas State Police’s fatal crash reports showed on Monday that Arkansas had 20 fatal accidents and 22 fatalities for the month of January.
In 2020, on Jan. 18, the ASP had reported 21 fatal accidents with a total of 21 fatalities. There were 39 fatal accidents for a total of 39 fatalities in the month of January in 2020.
