A juvenile is in custody after he allegedly slit a woman’s throat Saturday night in North Crossett.
The Ashley County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating other incidents from Saturday night — including alleged sexual assault — that involved the same suspect.
Sheriff Tommy Sturgeon said Sunday that a woman had been stabbed in a North Crossett trailer park. Investigator Josh Pollock said Monday morning that though the case was still under investigation, an unnamed juvenile had been arrested and charged with multiple counts of rape, battery, and robbery.
At press time a report indicated the juvenile had gone to a woman’s home on Hwy 52 in North Crossett, where he allegedly raped and stabbed her multiple times. Pollock said the victim’s neck had been slit from ear to ear and she had multiple stab wounds in other parts of her body. “She’s very lucky to be alive,” he said.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Pollock said a neighbor heard the incident and went next door. It is believed that when the neighbor kicked the door in, the suspect fled the scene.
“All of this is still under investigation,” Pollock said. “There is a lot we are still trying to piece together.”
The investigator also said that there are reports of other criminal activity from earlier in the evening that may involve the suspect and it is possible that there were other rape victims. Because the events were still under investigation, however, Pollock declined to release further information. All of the alleged events reportedly happened in the same area of North Crossett near the trailer park where the stabbing occurred.
The juvenile is reportedly on probation in Louisiana, which Pollock said is where he lived before he moved to North Crossett.
The juvenile was in custody and was on his way to Arkansas City for a first appearance in front of Judge Robert Gibson on Monday.
