Tricia Johnson presented Hamburg School Board with a request to remove part of the district’s Policy 4.48, “Video Surveillance and other student monitoring.”

The policy states that the board of directors utilizes video and other methods of surveillance on its campuses and its buses to fulfill the district’s responsibility to “maintain discipline, protect the safety, security, and welfare of its students, staff, and visitors while at the same time safeguarding district facilities, vehicles, and equipment.”

The portion Johnson sought to remove stated, “Other than video recordings being retained under the provisions of this policy’s following paragraph, the district’s video recordings may be erased any time greater than 45 days after they were created.”
