Hamburg Middle School sixth grade literacy teacher Joy Barnes submitted student essays in October to the Southeast Arkansas Literacy Association Essay Contest.
All Hamburg Middle School sixth graders competed with other sixth and seventh graders in the southeast Arkansas area.
Hamburg students took all three of the top spots.
Barnes said, “I am thrilled to work with such talented and disciplined students every day.”
The essays were written on the topic, “An Educator Who Changed My Life.”
First place winner was Roberto Palmerin; second place winner was Bo Barnes; and third place winner was Josiah Brown.
The students were awarded certificates, a medal, and each received a cash prize.
Their work was also entered in the statewide competition, for which the awards will be announced in April.
Barnes stated, “We love to see our students recognized for excellent work!”
