Fred’s Inc. has announced another list of closures and both Ashley County stores are on it.
The Memphis based chain announced Friday that 49 locations will soon be closing. The 49 stores will be in addition to the April announcement, which said that 159 stores would shut down.
Of the 49 announced Friday, 10 are in Arkansas and two in Ashley County. The list included both the Crossett and Hamburg stores along with Arkansas locations in Bald Knob, Beebe, Brinkley, Cherokee Village, Clarksville, Heber Springs, Morrilton, and Sheridan.
A press release issued by the company stated, “Fred’s decision to close additional underperforming stores follows a continued evaluation of the company’s store portfolio, including historical and recent store performance and the timing of lease expirations, among other factors.”
The pharmacies in many of the stores are expected to stay open.
