The Hamburg Area Chamber of Commerce has announced a drive-in movie event that will take place on Saturday.
Georganna Cossey, the Chamber’s executive director, said that the event is free and something they decided to do in an effort to give back to the community.
“We wanted to find a way to give back to the community and give people an opportunity to do something fun with their family that supports social distancing,” Cossey said.
The chamber purchased FM transmitter equipment so that people could hear the movie from their vehicle radios.
The movie will be shown behind the Ashley County courthouse and Cossey said they are asking that guests get parked and settled before 8 p.m. The movie planned is The Little Rascals released in 1994.
There will be concession stands open and food trucks parked in the area. A portion of the profits from the food sold will be donated to the Hamburg Food Pantry.
Cossey said on Monday that they had at least three food trucks scheduled to attend and she was waiting to hear back from a fourth.
“Everyone turning a profit will be donating a portion to the Hamburg Food Pantry,” Cossey sadi.
They will be announcing CDC guidelines for this event later in the week. Cossey also said they are planning to do this again in August.
