A Hamburg man was burned while starting a campfire in his yard over the weekend.
Fire Chief Tim Hollis said Hamburg Fire Department, ProMed Ambulance, and Ashley County Sheriff’s Office all responded to a call in the Promise Land community on Ashley 70 Saturday night.
“A young man was trying to start a campfire in his back yard, and he was using gasoline and nothing went his way,” Hollis said.
Hollis said the victim was airlifted from the scene of the fire to Little Rock, but he is expected to survive. The victim was airlifted around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night and as of Monday morning he was reported to be in stable condition.
“He received first and second degree burns and he’s got a lot of recovering to do, but it looks like he is going to be alright,” Hollis said.
There was nothing criminal to investigate and Tommy Sturgeon, the Ashley County sheriff, confirmed that the incident was ruled as an accident, but declined to release the victim’s name.
