The spring 2023 American Legion Riders Post 111 Marble Run will take place Saturday, May 20.
Registration for the event will be open in the hour before the ride, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.
At 10 a.m. the kickstands go up and the riders take off from the American Legion Post 111 parking lot at 807 Main St. in Crossett.
Riders who travel the route will complete the 120-mile loop before heading back to Post 111.
Riders will head west from Main Street onto Hwy 82 as they travel the designated route to the first of four stops along the way.
Teddy Bear’s Truck Stop in Strong is designated as the first stop. The second stop is set for Moro Bay; the third stop will be Cash’s Citgo at the intersection of Hwy 278 and Hwy 63 in Warren; and the fourth stop of the ride will be at Pine Hill Grocery on Hwy 133.
Lunch will be available at the Post after the ride for $10. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.
All proceeds will go to support of the Legacy Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to the children of fallen and disabled veterans since 9/11.
Gifford said that back around 2009, members of the American Legion wanted to make sure the children of fallen soldiers would have access to higher education.
The American Legion and the Legion Riders formed the Legacy Scholarship Fund, which has generated $16 million nationwide since its inception; last year alone $1.3 million was raised for the cause, explained Gifford.
The Legion also expanded the scholarship in 2017 to include children of VA-rated, post-9/11 veterans with a combined disability rating of 50 percent or higher.
Even those not riding are invited to support the cause; donations are tax deductible.
Registration fees vary; $20 per bike, $10 per person.
First place winner will receive $150 and the last place winner will receive $50.
