The Hamburg Lions basketball team grabbed a nail-biting win against the Crossett Eagles on Friday night.
The Eagles were the first to go up on the scoreboard with a two-point basket by Quendarious Hampton, but Lion Jalen Wilson answered with back to back three point shots giving the Lions a 6-2 lead early in the game.
The Eagles tied up the score a few times in the first half, but the Lions were hanging on to a one-point lead 38-37 at half time.
The Lions held on for a 71-67 win over the Eagles.
Wilson scored 29 points for the Lions and had five total rebounds. Nigel Lewis was behind Wilson with 10 total points and Caleb Bridges, Trey Brown and Dj Johnson each scored eight points for the Lions. Lewis also had three steals and six assists.
The Lady Lions were leading 25-18 at the half, but ultimately fell 60-55 to the Lady Eagles.
The boys win gave the Lions another point for the James D. Rankin trophy giving the Lions 3 points to the Eagles 5. There are still four sports left and plenty of opportunity for Hamburg to catch up and claim the Rankin award.
The Lion teams played Magnolia on Tuesday night, but results were not available at half time.
The Lions will host Camden Fairview on Friday for their last regular season game of the year.
