The Hamburg Lion basketball teams lost conference games on the road last week in Monticello and Magnolia.
The Hamburg boys are now 9-11 for the season and 1-4 in the conference after losing early in the week to the Monticello Billies and on Friday to the Magnolia Panthers. Hamburg fell 55-46 in Monticello and 85-30 to Magnolia.
The Lady Lions lost 60-30 to the Monticello Billies and 42-30 to Magnolia. The girls are now 2-17 for the season and 0-5 in the conference.
This season is Magnolia’s first to play in the 4A Region 8 conference with the Lions; in years prior Magnolia played in the 5A division. Magnolia is currently leading the conference with a 5-0 record and Camden Fairview is behind them with a 3-1 conference record. Monticello is currently ranked third. Hamburg’s only conference win this season has been against the Warren Lumberjacks and their four conference losses have been Crossett, Monticello, Magnolia, and Star City.
The basketball teams traveled to Camden on Tuesday for another conference matchup, but results were not available at press time. The Hamburg teams will travel to Star City on Thursday and their next home game will be Jan. 29 when they host a rematch against the Warren Lumberjacks. Thursday’s game will tip off at 5 p.m. starting with the junior boys followed by the Lady Lions and the high school boys. On Jan. 29 the games will tip-off in Hamburg at 5 p.m. starting with the junior Lady Lions followed by the senior Lady Lions and senior Lions.
