Euel “Lamar” Hamilton

Euel “Lamar” Hamilton, age 63, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018. A career Riverboat Captain, wonderful father and friend, Lamar was known as an amazing, well-rounded musician and philosopher, “If you will”. We were all so blessed to be related to, and have ‘The’ Lamar Hamilton in our lives. He will be dearly missed.

He will be forever remembered by his son, Benjamin Lamar Hamilton (Sharon), brothers Glen Hamilton and Steven Hamilton (Julie), half-brothers Johnny Summers (Alice) and Charles Summers, and good friend Eric Stone. Lamar will also be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Deana Rush, Tera Huntsman, Jamie Cannon, Savannah, Warren, Christian, and Melissa. He was predeceased by his parents, Euel and Bonnie, and sisters Debbie and Joellen.


Ijuana Shaver

Ijuana Shaver, 76, of Fountain Hill died on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, Mississippi. She was the owner of Radford Street Laundry Mat for many years and a CNA with home health. She was a member of Zion Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tennie Aiken in January of 2015; her parents, Billy and Birdie Ridgell-Brown; a grandson and a great-grandson.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Billy Ray Shaver; one daughter, Belinda Davis of Byrdstown, Tennessee; one sister, Delois Thomas of New Braunfels, Texas; three grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Cheryl Slocum officiating.


Connie Nutter

Connie Nutter, 82, of Hamburg died on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Ashley County Medical Center. She was a native of Damascus, Arkansas. She was homemaker and a member of Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church.

She was proceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert Daniel “Danny” Nutter in October of 2016 and her parents Ollie and Leona Huneycutt-Brannon.

She is survived by a son, William “Chuck” Nutter and wife, Carol, of Hamburg; a daughter, Terry Ann McLarrin and husband Joe, of Hamburg; and five grandchildren.

Graveside service was on Friday, April 27 at 11 a.m. at Promise Land Cemetery in Hamburg with Bro. Josh Luellen officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Justin Martin, Dakota Martin, Bill Huff, and Jimmy Roberts.

Visitation was on Thursday, April 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc.


Johnnie Max Leigh

Johnnie Max Leigh, 78, of Hamburg died on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Mr. Leigh was a native and lifelong resident of Ashley County and a 1957 graduate of Hamburg High School. Mr. Leigh retired in 2002 after 42 years with Georgia-Pacific Paper Mill and he retired from the Hamburg Fire Department as Assistant Chief in 2001 after 27 years of volunteer service. He was a member of the Fountain Hill First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alpheus and Addine Swan Leigh; and two brothers, Kenneth L. Leigh, Sr. and A.J. Leigh

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Mansfield Leigh of Hamburg; two sons, Rickey Leigh and wife, Melissa, of McKinney, Texas and Robert Leigh and wife, Suzette, of Crossett; a daughter, Robin Mitchell and husband, Eugene, of Hamburg; a sister, Christine Riley of Hamburg; a brother, Danny Leigh and wife, Brenda, of Bryant; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 28 at the Fountain Hill First Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Elton officiating. Burial was in the Crossroads Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenny Leigh, Brian Leigh, Kenton Leigh, Matthew Leigh, Casey Riley, Johnny Pierce and Wayne Smith. Honorary pallbearers were the retired and active members of the Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.


Eliece Gulledge

Eliece Gulledge, 87, of Hamburg died at her home on Friday, April 27, 2018 surrounded by her family. Gulledge was a native of Houston, Mississippi, a resident of Hamburg for the past 35 years and a former resident of Snyder and Portland. She was a homemaker and a member of the Southside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Leroy Gulledge; a grandson; a step-granddaughter; her parents, Clifford C. and Rena Faye Turman Prescott; a sister, Claudine Bryant and two brothers, Harold and Charles Prescott.

She is survived by two sons, Rev. Edward Gulledge and wife, Gladys, and Bobby Gulledge and wife, Janie, all of Hamburg; three daughters, Mary Norrell and husband, Jimmy, of Hamburg, Claudia Kinnaird of Johnsville and Clara Wood of Crossett; five sisters, Mary Hicks of Dermott, Annette Brumfield of Idaho, Elizabeth Thompson of Mist, Norma Burris of Jonesboro and Margaret Mixon of McGehee; a sister-in-law, Tiny Gulledge of Hamburg; three brothers, Randy Prescott of Monticello, Bobby Joe Prescott of Cabot and Norman Prescott of Florida; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren on the way.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, at the Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Elton and Rev. Edward Gulledge officiating. Burial was in the Snyder Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandchildren, Paul Gulledge, Jeff Norrell, John Freeland, Kyle Felkins, Dillon Felkins, Justin Felkins, Zach Pamplin, Xander Gulledge, Tyler Skeen, Mason Gansz, Caleph Norrell, Tyler Collins, Austin Collins, Garrett Ware, Gavin Ware, Lakota Gulledge and Blayne King. Memorials may be made to the Snyder Cemetery Association, c/o Sue Bailey, 126 Honey Hill Loop, Searcy, AR 72143. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.


Hilton Goodwin

Hilton Goodwin, 91, of Bastrop, Louisiana, died on Sunday, April 29, 2018. Goodwin was a native of Wilmot and a resident of Bastrop, Louisiana for the past 60 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. Goodwin retired in 1988 after working at Texas Gas for 30 years. He was a member of the Mapelvail Missionary Baptist Church since 1964.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyett and Kelmie Sawyer Goodwin; a daughter-in-law, Jamie Cooper Goodwin and a brother, Sawyer Goodwin.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria Coody Goodwin of Bastrop, Louisiana; two sons, David Goodwin and wife, Donna, of Crossett and Dennis Goodwin of Bastrop, Louisiana; a sister, Virginia Goodwin Carter of Crossett; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1 at Maplevale Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Carter and Bro. Farrell Breshears officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jimmy Goodwin, Boyett Goodwin, Charlie Coody, Donnie Miller, Joey Miller and Doyle Coody, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were the men of Maplevale Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
