Joey Pollock

Joey Pollock, 32, of Hamburg, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019.  He was a native of Bastrop, La., and lifelong resident of the Berlin community south of Hamburg. He was a truck driver, and he attended Harmony Baptist Church. He was a member of Holland Hill Hunting Club.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jamie Pollock, and his grandparents, Willie Ray and Elsie Mae West Pollock and Harland Sr. and Barbara McDaniels Abernathy.

He is survived by his children, Judy and Gavin Pollock of Pine Bluff; his parents, Ricky and Dowana Abernathy Pollock; and one brother, Josh Pollock and wife, Stacy, all of Hamburg.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Berlin Road with Bro. Allan Eppinette officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Henry Bissell, Mark West, Mitch West, Trapper Holland, Will Kinnaird, and Luke Holland.

The family suggested memorials be made to Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home, Inc., PO Box 28, Hamburg, AR  71646.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home.

Matalane Preston

Matalane Mayo Preston, age 89, of Hamburg, died at her home Monday, Sept. 2, 2019. She was born July 5, 1930 in Jones, La., to George Naff Mayo and Bertha Leliah Manning Mayo. She was a cosmetologist and a salon owner, and she sang in church at Parkdale Baptist Church and Southside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Preston; two brothers, George Mayo Jr. and Eugene Mayo; one sister, Eloise Johnson; and one great-granddaughter, Britny Kiana Montgomery.

She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Preston Lawrence (Alton) of Conroe, Texas; four grandchildren; two brothers, Derwood Mayo (Shirley) of Amity and Billy Mayo (Louetta) of Crossett; and two sisters, Mettie Sue White of Magnolia, Texas, and Betty Smith (Ben) of Crossett.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at South Side Baptist Church in Hamburg.

Helen Robbins

Helen Martin Robbins, 70, of Crossett, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, in Crossett. She was a native of Hamburg and a resident of Crossett for most of her life. She graduated from Crossett High School, attended Cloverdale Assembly of God Church, worked as a florist for many years, and worked at Oakhurst Minit Shop.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.L. “Monkey” Robbins; one daughter, Laurie Ann Robbins White; her parents, John Oliver and Grace Parker Martin; and three brothers, Jimmy Martin, Tommy Martin, and Glenn Martin.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Robbins Weaver of Crossett; one son, Johnny Robbins of Maplevale; one son-in-law, Mike White of Crossett; two sisters, Joyce Blocker of Jonesboro, La., and Deannie Moss of Palmyra, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6 in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Jerry Grant officiating. Burial was in Crossroads Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mike Chisholm, Logan Harrington, Price Holt, Keith Harrington, Albert Mills, Kevin Cosby, Willie Person, and Eric Wall.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 2222 Cottondale Lane, Ste 310, Little Rock 72202.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home.


Rebecca Smith

Rebecca Sue Smith, age 68, of Parkdale died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019 at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock.

She was survived by two sons, Alonzo Smith of Parkdale and LeSean Smith of Memphis, Ten.; three sisters, Beatrice Campbell of Parkdalle, Bernice Smith of Crossett, and Marcie Miller of Memphis; two brothers, Dan Smith of Crossett and Leroy Smith of Memphis; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 7 at Union Baptist Church in Parkdale.

Family hour was at Dillard Funeral Home in Eudora.
