Hazel Lene Green, 69 of Monticello, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020 at Drew Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Longview, a homemaker, and of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmanuel and Emma Daniels Miller; two brothers, John Wayne and Leonard Dennis Miller; and two sisters, Gladys Jean Miller and Patricia Arrington.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Ray Miller of Monticello and James Miller of Jonesboro; two daughters, Gail Miller of Jacksonville and Cherry Miller of Monticello; three brothers, Nathan Miller of Crossett, Mitchell Miller of Monticello, and James Miller of Texarkana; one sister, Diane Miller of Monticello; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 7 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church in Lacy with Rev. George Toney officiating.
Active pallbearers were Alfonzo Cobbs, Kyle Lowe, Fred Daniels, Mitchell Maxwell, Antonio Daniels, Drake Lowe, Alex Ingram, and Laron White.
Honorary pallbearers were Mitchell Miller, James Miller, Nathan Miller, La’Donte Miller, Justin Maxwell, and Rickey Moore.
Burial was in Mt. Pelium Cemetery in Longview.
Tommy Hugh Murphy, 86, died surrounded by family Sunday, March 8. He resided at Inlet Coastal Resort Memory Care Center in Murrells Inlet, S.C. where he battled with Alzheimer’s.
He was born Dec. 6, 1933, in West Crossett attended elementary school at Waller’s Chapel. He worked at Burrs Store before graduating Crossett High School at 16 and then worked at Georgia Pacific in the planning department, later moving into maintenance. He retired from G–P as a shift foreman in Palatka, Fla.
He attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church and served as a North Crossett volunteer fireman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Cornelius Murphy and Ella Maud Naff Murphy of West Crossett.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three siblings, George Tipton Murphy and wife Jo of Fredericksburg, Texas, Gracia Lynn Wood and husband Bruce of West Crossett, and James (Jimmy) Owen Naff and wife Dot of Bastrop, La.; four children, Thomas Richard (Rick) Murphy and wife Ellen of Westfork, Paula Murphy Hayden of Murrells Inlet, Sarah Janine Murphy of Newport, and Todd Waldon Murphy and wife Vera of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A public visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 11 with a funeral service immediately following at Medders Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Lloyd Gibbs will officiate. Burial will follow in Crossroads Cemetery if weather permits.
