Eula Bankston

Eula Virginia Bankston, 91, of Wilmot, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 at West Carroll Memorial Hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Wilmot, was a certified nurses’ assistant at Place Nursing Home in Wilmot, and a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Odell Bankston; one son, James Bankston; one daughter, Pearlean Parker; one grandson, Andre Grant; her parents, Norman and Nancy Overton-Tharp; two brothers, Sammie Lee and Frank Tharp; and two sisters, Annie Organ and Beatrice Slack.

She is survived by three sons, Norman Grant (Norma) and Alfred Pace (Elaine), both of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Curtis Bankston, of Chicago, Ill.; four daughters, Melvin Armstrong (Cecil) of Greenbrier, Betty Jean Cate (Anthony) of Santa Rosa, Erma Jean Cole (Ricky) of District Height, Md., and Sandra Fowler (Vance) of Grandview, Mo.; two brothers, Freddie Lee Tharpe of Crossett and Matthew Tharpe of Chicago; one sister, Pearlean Tharpe-Rent of Wilmot; 28 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Service was held Saturday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Wilmot with Rev. Amborse Dozart officiating.

Active pallbearers were Dekevious Fowler, Thaveion Fowler, Roger Bankston Jr., Jawaskai Grant, Jeremy Grant, and Ricky Bankston.

Honorary pallbearers were Norman Grant, Vincent Fowler, Anthony Cape, Cecil Armstrong, and Alfred Pace.

Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home.

John Holliday Jr.

John Oliver Holliday Jr., 90, of Pineville, La., died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018. He was a native of Parkdale, and a former resident of Mandeville, La. He worked for Texas Gas Transmission Company for 38 years and was a Mason, a former member of Parkdale Baptist Church, and a member of Pineville Park Baptist Church. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and was a former member of the Arkansas National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Louise Jones Holliday; and his parents, John and Allie Skinner Holliday.

He is survived by two children, John Benjamin Holliday and wife, Brenda, of Marshall, Texas, and Mary Alice Holliday Stratton of Ponchatoula, La.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home chapel with Bro. David Sullivan officiating. Burial was in Parkdale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Khaled Rabbani, John Holliday Jr., Robert Sneed, Daniel Aquino, Ryan Cruz, J.W. Jones, and Daniel Sneed.

Honorary pallbearers were B.H. Perkins and Dock Lambert.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home.

Betty Mann

Betty Ann Mann, 85, of Crossett, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.

She was born April 21, 1933, to her parents, Alvie and Cora Hill Williams.

She was a lifelong resident of Crossett, a graduate of Crossett High School, and a former supervisor at First National Bank, where she worked for 22 years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, played piano, and sang.

She was a member of “The Golden Voices” choir and her family quartet, “The Williams Family.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald Brady Mann; and her brother in-law, Kenneth Evans.

She is survived by one sister, Guylene Evans of Crossett.

A celebration of life service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at First Baptist Church of Crossett with Pastor Jamie Staley officiating.

Burial followed in Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Robert Evans, Alvie Evans, Ethan Evans, Oscar Velasquez, Chase Outlaw, and Sidney Coady.

Honorary pallbearers were members of her Sunday school class.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association in her honor.

Debra Wesson

Debra Wesson, 56, of Fountain Hill, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018. She was a native of Pasadena, Texas and a resident of Fountain Hill for over 30 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Fountain Hill First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Junior Fleming; her mother, Illa Faye Henderson Wesson; two sisters, Virginia Fleming and Lucrecia Bradley; and one brother, Joseph Calvin Fleming III.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Ray Wesson of Fountain Hill; two children, Joseph Ray Wesson of Fountain Hill and Melissa Faylene Graves of Gulfport, Miss.; two brothers, David Wesson of Wilmar and Wayne Wesson of Warren; two sisters-in-law, Marlene Curry of Fountain Hill and Christy Brazier of Crossett; one brother-in-law, Brad Graham of Hamburg; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23 in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Bill Elton officiating. Burial was in Zion Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brad Moffatt, Clint Jeffers, David Carter, Gerald Jennings, Jody Edwards, Thomas Tillman, Josh Tillman and Brian Slaughter.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral.

Courtney Woods

Courtney Woods, 31, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at Washington Regional Medical Center.

She was a former resident of Montrose.

She was preceded in death by one brother, William O’Bryan Woods, and her maternal grandparents, Helen Lewis and John Hodges.

She is survived by her mother, Beverly Hodges of Fayetteville; her father, Williams Woods Jr. of Lake Village; paternal grandparents, William and Geneva Woods of Montrose; and step grandmother, Ersalean Hodges of Columbia, Ga.

Service was held Friday, Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Dermott with Pastor Dexter Howard officiating.

Active pallbearers were Tyler Robinson, Ryan Marshall, Kytryck Robinson, Landriel Woods, Javarius Curtis, and Larry Woods Jr.

Burial was in Number 2 Cemetery in Portland and under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home.
