John Henry Carter
He was a native of Wilmot, born Feb. 15, 1940.
He was a retiree of Marymount University and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Los Angeles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rosie Carter; one sister, Mary Carter; and one brother, Sammy Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Linda B. Carter; his children, Michael Carter, Corey Carter Sr. (Kendra), and Carlos Brown; his sisters, Hazel Carter of Crossett, Nazeree Summers (Dassie) of Kansas City, Mo., Bernice Hamilton (Richard) of Kansas City, Kan., Bonnie and Delia Carter of Kansas City, Mo., Lula Mae Washington and Vicky Carter of Wilmot; and 10 grandchildren.
Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Dean Montgomery officiating.
Pallbearers were Daryl Carter, Kendrick Martin, Freddie Tharpe, Cedrick Carter, Ray Martin, Al Carter, and Dassie Summers. Honorary pallbearers were Maurice Carter, Verdie Vann, Jr. Tony Brown, Carlos Brown, John Steven Carter, and Freddie Walker. Burial was in Westview Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc. of Hamburg.
Cleveland Ray Cromwell
Cleveland Ray Cromwell, 55, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock. He was a native of Crossett, a retired barber and beautician, and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Old Crossett Camp Community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleotha "Buddy" and Joyce Marie Girtman-Cromwell.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Erma Denise Logan-Cromwell; two stepsons, Ronald Smith of Little Rock and Carlton Logan, wife Keoyana of Crossett; one stepdaughter, Denisha Smith-Scott of Little Rock; one brother, Eld. James O’dell Cromwell, wife Carolyn of Fayetteville, N.C.; four sisters, Glenda Todd, husband Orlando of Slidell, La., Terri Trotter-Cromwell of Dallas, Texas, Carla Todd, husband Ronnie of Allen, Texas, and Daphane Cromwell of Crossett; eight step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Services were at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5 at First Baptist Church on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in Crossett with Reverend Curtis Jackson officiating. Pallbearers were Louis Kennedy, Bruce Wright, JP Wright, Antreal Lewis, Bryant Ussery, and Kenneth Lewis. Burial was in Nimmons Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc. of Hamburg.
Joann Lott Simms
Joann Lott Simms, 76, of Elm Grove, La., died Monday, Feb. 29, 2016 at her residence. She was a native of Boydell, a resident of Elm Grove since 1995, and a former resident of Hamburg for many years. She graduated from Hamburg High School in 1957. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ringgold, La. She was a gospel singer and a member of the Lott Trio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruben L. and Ella Mae Evans Lott, and two brothers, Raymond and Harold Lott.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Bill Simms (U.S. Army Retired) of Elm Grove; one son, Boyd Kusturin of Hamburg; two daughters, Lori Golson of Elm Grove and Danee Duke of Monroe, La.; two brothers, Ralph Lott and wife, Brenda, of Edwards, Miss., and Floyd Lott and wife, Sheila, of Crossett; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Egypt Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Moses officiating. Burial was in Egypt Cemetery. Pallbearers were Greg Lott, Mike Lott, Gary Lott, Randall Burchfield, Danny Slack and Royce Allen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one’s local church. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Sabrina Kaye Grider
Sabrina Kaye Grider, 44, of Hamburg died Friday, March 4, 2016 at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock. She was a lifelong resident of Hamburg, a homemaker, and of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Francis Lucille Ward-Brown.
She is survived by her husband of 17 years, David Grider; one son, Caleb French of Alabama; one daughter, Haley Grider of Hamburg; her father: W.L. Brown of Crossett; one sister, Lavina Faye Spruell of Hamburg; four brothers, Phil Ebarb, wife Abby, John Ebarb, Terry Ebarb, and Tim Ebarb, all of Crossett; and one grandchild.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9 at Cromwell Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Keith Boseman officiating. Pallbearers are Jeffery Ward, Caleb French, Wilton Elesha, Ken Byers, Chad King, and L.W. Ward Jr. Burial will be in Hamburg Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home, Inc.
Cindy Russell Allen
Cindy Russell Allen, 57, of Little Rock, died Friday, March 4, 2016 at her residence. She was a native of Dermott and was raised in Boydell. She was a resident of the Little Rock area for the past 40 years. She graduated from Montrose Academy in 1978. She was a legal secretary and a member of the Catholic church.
She was preceded in death by one son, Aaron Scott Allen and her parents, Clyde Reed Russell Jr. and Opal Maglothin Russell.
She is survived by one son, Camron Allen of Little Rock; one brother, Ricky Russell of Boydell; two sisters, Gail Doyle of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Becky Young of Richardson, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Donaldson officiating. A private burial will be held in Dermott Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation, 1 Children’s Way, Slot 661, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72202-3591. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel.
