Willene Barnett Stinson
Willene Barnett Stinson, age 86, of Crossett, died June 6, 2016 at Audrey's Special Home. She was born Jan. 18, 1930 in Crossett to the late Leonard Elzie and Ollie Mae Doss Barnett.
She was a homemaker and a member of Jarvis Chapel Baptist Church. She was a member of Ashley County Extension Homemakers Club and a long time member and past treasurer of Ashley County Fair Board.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin Franklin, Leroy Barnett, Norris Barnett, and Willie Mac Barnett; three sisters, Hazel Schichtel, Ione Barnett and Martha Ingram; and two granddaughters, infant baby Hopkins and Tammy "Sissy" Hopkins.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, James C. Stinson of Crossett; one son, Wayland J. Stinson (Margaret) of Crossett; two daughters, Claudia Horton (Ray Gene) of Monticello and Wanda McHan of Crossett; one sister, Violet Ross of Pine Bluff; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 9 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Griffith, Bro. Lloyd Gibbs and Bro. Andy Connard officiating. Burial followed in Unity Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Pallbearers were Wayland Stinson, Jamie Hopkins, Jeremy Cutrell, Dewayne Kelley, Keith Barnett and Ricky Owens.
Veda Bernice Hughes Roper
Veda Bernice Hughes Roper, 98, of Russellville, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Russellville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 8, 1917, on White Oak Mountain at East Fork in Pope County.
She was a resident of Russellville and a former resident of the Wilmot area for many years. She worked as a nurse's aid and she was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mode Franklin Roper Sr.; two sons, Mode Franklin Roper Jr. and Billy Joe Roper Sr.; two grandchildren; her parents, Lester and Lola Parton Hughes; three brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Harrison of Homosassa, Fla.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Friday, June 10 at the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Joe Yates officiating. A private burial was held in Dry Bayou Cemetery in Wilmot.
Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Bruhn, Michael Adams, Ricky Roper Jr., Craig Roper, Tommy Coutee and Mel Roper. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Vanita Jean Grantham
Vanita Jean Grantham, 84, of Portland, died Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Chicot Memorial Medical Center in Lake Village. She was born in Chicot County and was a life long resident of Portland.
She graduated from Portland High School and worked at Portland Bank, now Parkway Bank, for 40 years having retired as vice president of operations. She was a member of Portland Baptist Church for over 60 years where she was on multiple committees, served as treasurer and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Aubrey and Roxie Ann Stoffer Sadler.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ramon Grantham; one son, Gregg Grantham and wife, Susie, all of Portland; one daughter, Pamela Jean Clayton of Mountain Home; two brothers, Gerald Sadler and wife, Delia, of Winnsboro, La., and Larry Sadler and wife, Debbie, of Horatio; two sisters, Dian Lawrence and husband, Robert, of Orange Beach, Ala., and Doyce Lord of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11 at Portland Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Mason officiating. Burial was in Portland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Buddy Lawrence, H.T. Cunningham, Jerry Selby, Jimmie Sadler, Richard Sadler and Bobby Lawrence. Christopher Careeve Haynes
Christopher Careeve Haynes, 41 of Pine Bluff, formerly of Crossett, died Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in Stuttgart. He was a native of Bastrop, La., but was raised in Crossett. He was a supervisor at Riceland in Stuttgart and a member of Highland Baptist Church in Pine Bluff.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Ann Haynes, and one brother, Aaron Webb.
He is survived by his wife of four years, Bennetta Green-Haynes; his father, James Hampton Jr., stepmother Maggie of Hamburg; three sons, Marcus Haynes of Hamburg, Tyland Love of Rockefeller, Ill., and Percy Smith of Pine Bluff; five daughters, Nycole Haynes, Cortney Haynes, Yasmine Haynes, all of Crossett, and Kenya Pugh and Maricia Bennett, both of Pine Bluff; five brothers, James Hampton III and Chris Hampton, both of Arlington, Texas, Steven Hampton of Fayetteville, K.J. Harris of Killeen, Texas, and Kerry Brock of Las Vegas, Nev.; and five sisters, LaTashia Dye, husband Dennis of Austin, Verceolia Brown, husband Bruntron of Killeen, and Monica Carter, husband Darrell, Shaffie Miller and Talisha Simpson, all of Crossett.
Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at New Bethel Baptist Church in Crossett with Rev. Christopher Mack officiating.
Pallbearers are Greg Smith, Sonny Lewis, Nakia Hawkins, Timothy Goree, Keith Williams and Tommy Wardlow.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Crossett High School Class of 1994 and the employees of Riceland.
Burial will be in Quinn Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Visitation is Tuesday, June 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Herbert Lee Edwards
Herbert Lee Edwards, 62, of Crossett died Thursday June 9, 2016 in Crossett. He was born Nov. 29, 1953 in Dumas.
Early in his career he was an auto mechanic retired from Georgia Pacific sawmill as an heat and air technician.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert D. Edwards and Leona Cooney Edwards.
Survivors are his son, Kevin Edwards of El Dorado, and three sisters, Catherine Edwards, Peggy Pettit (Randy) and Sharon Mann (Steve), all of Crossett.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 12 at Perry’s Funeral Chapels in Strong with Rev James Fleming officiating. Cremations services will be provided by Perry’s Funeral Chapels.
