Hattie M. Cooper

Hattie M. Cooper, 92, of Crossett died Aug. 10, 2016 at Stonegate Villa Health and Rehab. She was born May 24, 1924 in Milo. She was a gemologist in Dallas, Texas for over 15 years and worked at First Baptist Church Mother’s Day Out for over 10 years; she was a member there.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Cooper; three brothers, Haskell Bolin, M.Z. Bolin, and Lewis Mitchell "Bill" Bolin; two sisters, Mary Bolin Fletcher, Quida Bolin Johnson; one grandson, Thomas Pounds; and her parents, Mose and Sally Franks Bolin.

Survivors include one son, John "Jackie" Cooper III of Conroe, Texas; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Lewis (Wes) of Tahlequah, Okla., and Jan Renee Kennedy (Mike) of Crossett; one sister, Sally Bolin Murphy of Milo; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Lakewood Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Jose Antonio Mondragon

Jose Antonio Mondragon, 87, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was a native of Michoacan, Mexico and a resident of Hamburg for over 40 years. He was a farmer and a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Silbina Mondragon in 2005; one daughter, Aida Mondragon in 1981; his parents, Gabino and Victoria Talavera Mondragon; two brothers, Melesio and Ramiro Mondragon; and one sister, Enedina Mondragon.

He is survived by nine sons, Jose Isidro Mondragon of San Bernardino, Calif., Froilan Mondragon of Snyder, Jose Genaro Mondragon of Pine Bluff, Francisco Mondragon of Crossett, Hector Mondragon, Eugenio Mondragon, Jose Mondragon, and Cesar Mondragon, all of Hamburg, and Miguel Mondragon of Little Rock; one brother, Luis Mondragon of California; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass was held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Theo Okpara as celebrant. Burial will be Wednesday, Aug. 17 in Viejo Panteon Municipal Cemetery in Ameca Jalisco, Mexico.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home.

Louden Frank Huffty Jr.

Louden Frank Huffty Jr., 61, of Sterlington, La., died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, La. He was a native of Bastrop, La., a resident of Sterlington for the past four years and a former resident of Wilmot for many years. He owned Huffty Paving Company and he was a Methodist.

He was preceded in death by his father, Louden Frank "Buddy" Huffty Sr. in 1986 and one step-son, Tony Dupree.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Huffty; one daughter, Jamie Huffty, both of Sterlington; one step-son, Michael DeVault of Hendersonville, Tenn.; his mother, Mattie Crossley Ladd of Blytheville; two sisters, LuAnn Little of Springdale and Katie Margaret Ladd of Seattle, Wash.; and one granddaughter.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 in Wilmot Cemetery with Bro. Carlos Pitts officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be his many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Tribute Program, In memory of Tony Dupree, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.

Arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home.

Genevieve Haynes

Genevieve Haynes, 84, of Streator, died Saturday Aug. 6, 2016, at 5:45 a.m. at her home. She was born April 3, 1932, and worked for 31 years at Owens of Illinois in Streator before retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Haynes; her parents, Ellis and Alma (Mitchell) Hedrick; two sons, Tommie Haynes and Jimmy Haynes; three brothers, Virl Hedrick, Glen Hedrick, and Larry Hedrick; and three sisters, Inez Heusel, Carol Thomas and Wilma Hedrick, in infancy.

Survivors are four grandchildren including Jimmy Lee (Angela) Haynes of Hamburg; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Avis (Jim) Harchrick of Streator and Nita Hedrick of Oregon; and one brother, Howard (Sherry) Hedrick of Streator.

Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10 at Hagi Funeral Home. Private burial was in Riverview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to IVAR or to the charity of the ones’ choice.

H. Leon Wood

H. Leon Wood, 68, of Hamburg, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 at his residence. He was a native of Dermott and a resident of Hamburg for the past 44 years. He graduated from Crossett High School in 1966. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked for the Georgia-Pacific Corporation paper mill for 46 years and retired in 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Lee and Elizabeth Kilcrease Wood and one brother, Lloyd Wood.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Debra K. Hill Wood; one son, Jason Wood and wife, Jeannie, all of Hamburg; two brothers, Lawrence Wood and wife, Nancy, of Petal, Miss., and Lewis Wood and wife, Kay, of Crossett; two sisters, Patti Brantley and husband, Alvin, of Harrison and Pam Smith and husband, Harold, of Crossett; and two grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 at Hamburg Cemetery with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating.

Joseph "Benjamin" Washam

Joseph "Benjamin" Washam, 16, of Hamburg, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016. He was born Oct. 5, 1999, in Olivia, Mn., and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Hamburg. He was a sophomore at Hamburg High School.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Davis, and grandparents, Eugene Davis, Dema Marie Washam, Tommy D. and Betty L. Sivils.

He is survived by his parents, Richard E. Washam of Albany, Mo., and Leann Price Davis and step-father, John Davis of Fountain Hill; seven brothers, Richard A. Washam of Hot Springs, Jamie Netherly and Brandon R. Clark of Crossett, and J.C. Mason Davis, Jimmy L. Davis, Caden R. Davis, and Johnathon Davis of Fountain Hill; and grandparents, Susie White and Steve Horsman of Hamburg, Judy Davis of Fountain Hill, Dewey Savage of Monticello, and Ozeal Cruz Price of Hamburg.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in North Crossett.

A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 at Medders Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Tommy D. Sivils Jr., Joshua T. Tyler, and Elvin McDill officiating followed by burial in Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Richard E. Washam, G. Keith Watt, Brandon R. Clark, Jeremy L. Watt, C. Allen Watt, and J.C. Mason Davis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Arkansas High School Rodeo Association or the Arkansas Childrens Hospital in Little Rock.
