Law enforcement officials are investigating two Memorial Day weekend shootings in Ashley County, one of which was fatal.
In the case of the fatal shooting, Hamburg and Arkansas State Police are investigating.
Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said that the homicide happened at approximately 1:10 a.m. May 27.
A news release from Sadler said local police officers responded to 407 W. Foote Street in Hamburg where they discovered an individual, later identified as Curtis Lee Jordan Jr., 30, had been wounded by gunfire. Sadler reported that Jordan died inside the residence.
The release said that special agents of the Arkansas State Police began processing the crime scene early Monday morning and questioning individuals who may have information about the shooting incident.
Jordan’s body and forensic evidence are being examined by personnel assigned to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory.
A criminal investigation is continuing, no formal charges had been filed in the case as of Tuesday morning.
The second shooting under investigation happened in Crossett.
Investigator Teresa Toliver with Crossett Police Department said that officers were dispatched to the 800 block of West 11th Street on May 25. At the scene, they found that Brooks Minnieweather had been shot. Tolliver said Minnieweather was transported to Ashley County Medical Center.
Reports with the CPD said the victim is alive and police are still investigating the matter. As of Tuesday afternoon, no suspects had been arrested and CPD declined to release further information.
