Two Hamburg High School Bass Club teams placed in the Student Angler Federation High School State Championship at Lake Ouachita, and one team placed in the top five at the World Finals in Alabama.

Late last month two Hamburg teams fished at Lake Ouachita for the Arkansas state title and both Hamburg teams were less than a pound away from winning the title, which went to a team from Lake Ouachita High School with a weight of 13-14 pounds.

Second place was taken by Hamburg Bass Club members Ben Brockwell and Austin Fleming from Hamburg High School with 13-00 pounds.

Third place was just two ounces less at 12-14 pounds and was taken by Kyle Fleming and Dalton Gill, also Hamburg Bass Club members at Hamburg High School.

Last weekend Austin Fleming and Brockwell competed in the world tournament on Lake Pickwick in Florence, Ala. The pair placed fifth out of 31 teams.

Fishing in shallow water with Texas-rigged baits, they caught 12-5 pounds putting them in fifth place.

The first place team from Kentucky caught 16-6 pounds total, and the second place team from Alabama caught 14-13 pounds total.

Two other Alabama teams placed third and fourth with weights of 13-03 pounds and 12-10 pounds.
