The Hamburg robotics teams competed in a tournament in Monticello on Friday and two elementary students from the Lion Pride B team are moving on to compete at the state level.
Hunter Lipsmeyer and Haley Cossey won the Teamwork Champion award and ranked fourth overall out of 18 teams in the Monticello VEX IQ Robotics tournament. They played in six matches and scored an average of 23.42 points per match. The win was enough to qualify Lipsmeyer and Cossey to compete at the state level.
Hamburg had two teams that went to the competition to compete in the middle school division as well. The team named HMS ranked sixth place, and the team named Lion Bots placed eighth out of 19 teams total. HMS was paired with a team from Bryant for the quarterfinals and the semifinals. In the quarterfinals HMS and Bryant were able to score a combined total of 28 to the opponents’ 7, but in the semifinals they scored eight to their opponents’ 18.
The middle school teams did not qualify for state, but there are still several qualifying matches before the middle school state championship event.
The elementary and middle school state competitions will be in Russellville in March.
