Seventy-nine boats hit the water at the Crossett Port on Saturday morning for the Crossett Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Buddy Bass tournament.
There were fisherman registered to fish from all over southeast Arkansas and parts of Louisiana.
The top two winning teams were actually pairs from El Dorado. Terry and Ryan Webb took home first place and $5,000 with a total weight of 16.92 and last year’s champions Ryan and Ryland Jackson took second place and $3,000 with a total weight of 16.41.
The third place team was made up of fishermen from Crossett, Ryan Strebeck and Gary Madden, with a total weight of 13.75, and the fourth place team was Lane Cox and Austin Watkins of Louisiana.
Brian Higgonbotham and Walter Hill of Hamburg tied with Stephen Johnson of Hamburg and Billy Burchfield of Louisiana each having a total weight of 12.87.
The top 10 places received cash awards for a total of $15,000 in prize money.
The big bass awards went to Madden and Strebeck who placed first with a fish weighing 4.52. They won 60 percent of the pot taking home more than $900 in cash. The second biggest fish was caught by the Webb team, and they carried home 40 percent of the pot which totaled out to be around $600.
Mandy White, the Chamber’s executive director, said that approximately $27,000 was received in sponsorship money, but she didn’t have a total on exactly how much the tournament raised after counting registration fee income and expenses.
