The Spanish Club has selected their new officers for the school year. Officers are president, Esgar Jimenes; vice president, Brooke Ferguson; secretary/treasurer, Kayla McElroy; reporter, Kristin Morris, reporter; and Student Council representative, Bryan Allen.

Ferguson, McElroy, and Allen are all members of the Spanish II class at Hamburg High School. Ferguson is ready for the upcoming year, "Spanish Club is going to be a blast this year, and I'm excited about being vice president." Jimenes, who took Spanish II last year and is fluent in the language, is also excited, "I'm glad that I get to be president my senior year. I'm looking forward to the many upcoming Spanish Club activities."

Every year, the Spanish Club participates in multiple activities. To celebrate Christmas, the Spanish Club will order food from the local restaurant, Fiesta Linda, and have a party. The club is also considering building a float for the Hamburg Christmas Parade. A new activity that the Spanish Club will be participating in is the Foreign Language Festival at the University of Arkansas at Monticello in February. Also, Cinco de Mayo, a national Mexican holiday, will be celebrated on May 5.

The Spanish Club's sponsor is Norma Mondragon. Mondragon decided to make the club open to all students instead of just students that take Spanish I or II. The purpose of the club is to encourage students to learn about different cultures. "I am really excited and look forward to the new things coming for the Spanish Club this year," Mondragon said.
