The HHS cheerleaders and their advisor Michelle Johnson sponsored Kiddie Camp for students in pre-K through sixth grade. Over 100 girls and boys participated in the camp which lasted from September 21-25.
The purpose of the camp was to get the children involved in cheerleading and encourage them to show spirit. During practice, the children were divided into three different groups. Every day they practiced from 4:00-5:00, and after practice all of the children received popsicles.
The children learned different cheers, dances, and stunts. Some of the cheers and chants they learned were, "We Want a Touchdown" and "Purple, White, HHS, Let's Fight." Friday night before the Fordyce game the children performed what they learned during practice.
The cheerleaders worked hard but had fun teaching the children new cheer related activities. Joy McQuay said, "This week has been really exciting working with the future Hamburg cheerleaders." Johnson was happy that kiddie camp was a success. She said, "Kiddie Camp provided an excellent opportunity to promote school spirit to younger children!" Even the parents loved Kiddie Camp. Norma Mondragon, whose daughter, Isabella, attended the camp, said, "My daughter had a great time at Kiddie Camp! It was a new and fun experience for her."
