The Student Council officers for this year include president Daniel Meeks, vice president, A.J. Riels; secretary, Darbi Scott; treasurer, Steven Martin; reporter, Olivia Grappe, and school board representative, Zemarcus Mays. The officers campaigned and were elected at the end of the school year last year. Nick Adams is the sponsor of the Student Council for the second year.
The Student Council is involved in many activities. Before the school year started, the officers had meetings to decide the theme for the year and what decorations were needed. Then they spent the week before school decorating the auditorium and halls with signs, streamers, and names of the entire student body. The first day of school, Meeks opened the assembly by announcing the new officers. Then he told everyone to have a great year by having fun but still working hard.
The club holds meetings every Thursday to make decisions about upcoming weeks. They decide on the spirit days for the students on every game day, during spirit week, and during homecoming week. With help from the leadership class, the club hands out candy on game days and holds elections for class officers and homecoming maids.
Other events that the Student Council will do later in the school year include designing school dances, planning Fun Day, coming up with fund-raisers, and organizing can food drives. Dances like the Winter Formal, Homecoming, and other holiday dances happen because of the Student Council. Fun Day takes many weeks of planning from the officers and representatives before it can run smoothly. Darbi Scott believes that the organization will lead to a really good year. She stated, "We have a great group of officers this year. Hopefully we can have a really productive year."
