Obituaries Published March 7 Full Text Marian Grimm Carter Marian Lee Grimm Carter, 75, of Crossett died Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center. Born December 29, 1931, in the old Crossett Camp to Olen Curtis and Alpha Omega Burchfield Grimm, she retired from Arkansas Power and Light after 20 years of service. She loved to travel, read, shop and was a member of First Baptist Church of Crossett. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Robby Carter of Crossett; three sons, Dennis Wayne Carter and wife Connie of Crossett, David Alan Carter and wife Julie of West Hartford, CT, and Keith Duane Carter of Crossett; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Cheryl Alice Carter; and four half brothers, Horace Young, Harold Young, Harvel Young and Herman Young. Funeral services were at 1 p. m., Saturday, March 3, in the First Baptist Church with Bros. Jeff Smart, Jerry Carter and Barry Carter officiating. Burial followed at the Hamburg Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. Pallbearers were Steve Simmons, Hunter Barnett, Lewell Lynde, Paul Langley, Wayne Moffatt, Dennis Maxwell, Bobby Vickers, and Earl Deal. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 701 Main St., Crossett, AR 71635. www.jonesservice.com Ennis Opal Chapman Ennis Opal Barnett Chapman, 78, of Minden, LA, formerly of Hamburg, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at Cornerstone Hospital in Bossier City, LA. Born August 12, 1928, in Ashley County to Henry Bryan and Ollie Moore Barnett, she was a dedicated church worker, serving with her husband in the many churches he pastored. Survivors include one son, Dwayne Chapman and wife Pam of Minden; one brother, Charles Barnett and wife Maycel of Crossett; one sister, Lucille Bierbaum and husband Henry of Hamburg; and two grandsons, Jacob Dwayne Chapman of Ruston, LA, and Travis Kyle Chapman of Minden. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Rev. Cloy Chapman; two daughters, Wanda Jean Chapman and Roselyn Carol Chapman; one sister, Norma Allene Christy; and three brothers, James Oral Barnett, Robert Lee Barnett and Roby Glen Barnett. Funeral services were held Friday, March 2, in the chapel of Rose-Neath Minden Chapel in Minden with Revs. Richard Methvin and Sammy Tamburo officiating. Burial was at Whispering Pines Cemetery in Minden. Daniel Ely Ferguson Daniel Ely Ferguson, 61, of Crossett died Monday, February 28, 2007, at his residence. Born July 15, 1945, in Camden, he lived in Pine Bluff for 20 years and was a resident of Crossett for the past 27 years. He was a construction supervisor for Bradley Industrial Construction and a member of Pine Forest Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Daniel Ely Ferguson, Jr,. and wife Melinda of Crossett; two daughters, Linda Kannard and husband Steve of Crossett and Samantha Bates of Pine Bluff; one sister, Edith Moates of Crossett; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Ely and Annie Lee Smith Ferguson. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at the Pine Forest Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Roy Grantham officiating. Burial was at Mount Olive Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg. Billy Roy Kelley, Jr. Billy Roy Kelley, Jr., 20, of Star City died Sunday, March 4, 2007, in Star City as the result of an automobile accident. A resident of Star City for the past four years and a former resident of Eudora, he graduated from Star City High School in 2004 and worked for the Lincoln County Road Department. He attended the Southside Baptist Church in Star City. He is survived by his parents, Billy Roy Kelley, Sr., of Wilmot and Charlotte Bailey of Oak Grove, LA; his grandmother, Mary F. Kelley of Wilmot; his girlfriend, Danielle Hoven of Star City; a brother, Roy Cordell Kelley of Mississippi; two sisters, Heather Rose and her fiancé, Jeff Prior, of Johnstown, PA, and Sabrina Strange of Oak Grove; and a nephew, Alden Prior. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Buford & Mattie Rose and Charles Wesley Kelley. Grave-side services were planned for 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, in the Bell Cemetery outside Wilmot, with Rev. Carlos Pitts officiating. A native of Ashley County and a resident of Portland for most of his life, he owned and operated the Kirkland Grocery Store in Portland for 40 years and was a member of the Portland United Methodist Church. A World War II veteran of the United States Navy, he was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Myrtle Kirkland. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Edna Wroten Kirkland of Portland; a daughter, Ginger Wilson of Erie, CO; a brother, Paul E. Kirkland; and a sister, June Willis, both of Atlanta, GA; a granddaughter, Ginger Lee Estes and a great-granddaughter, Adeline Estes. Lochala Mr. Roddy Carter Lochala, 82, of Hamburg died Friday, March 2, 2007, at his residence in Hamburg. A native and lifelong resident of Hamburg, he graduated from Hamburg High School in 1943. He worked at Arkla Gas Company for 25 years until retiring in 1985 and also worked for W. E. Tucker Oil & Butane Company for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was a deacon for over 56 years as well as a Sunday School teacher and a Training Union & youth leader for 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pauline Sullivan Lochala of Hamburg; two sons, Roddy Allen "Butch" Lochala and wife Patty of Newport and Dr. Richard Mark Lochala and wife Susan of Mena; a sister, Kate Murphy and husband George of Crossett; six grandchildren, Dr. Roddy Smart Lochala and wife Mary Kathryn of Newport, Stephanie Wickliffe and husband Stephen of Tyler, TX, Nathan Lochala of Fayetteville, and Whitney, Joshua & Hannah Lochala, all of Mena; two great-grandchildren, Mary Mills Lochala and Abigail Pauline Lochala, both of Newport; and extended family members Hurshel & Anna Ruth Kelley, Jack & Kathryn Shell, John William & Nancy Spivey, Butch & Phyllis Hill and Martha Jones. Born on December 10, 1928, at Fountain Hill to Clyde Louis Lowry, Sr., and Fannie Francis Ford Lowry, he retired from Chase Bag Company and was a former member of Ashley County Rescue Unit and North Crossett Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church. Rice, 71, of Crossett died Thursday, March 1, 2007, at the Golden Living Center. Born on March 2, 1935, in Crossett to Cecil Leggett and Abbie Nora Stanley Rice, he loved to play the guitar and was a member of the Martinville Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, George Buchler of Crossett; one daughter, Pennie Conning of Alamogordo, NM; one brother, Thomas "Buddy" Rice of Bryant; five sisters, Dixie Bays, Lexie Bozeman, and Gladys Martin, all of Hamburg, and Verlee Jenkins and Julia Jenkins, both of Crossett; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Fay Rice, and a brother, Charles "Fay" Rice. Grave-side services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at the Carlock Cemetery with Bro.
